Two Atlanta Braves’ players were finalists for the annual Rawlings Gold Glove award this season.  Andrelton Simmons was a finalist at shortstop among the Washington Nationals’ Ian Desmond, and the Colorado Rockies’ Troy Tulowitzki.  Jason Heyward was a finalist for right field among the Cincinnati Reds’ Jay Bruce, and the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Gerardo Parra.

Jason Heyward won a Gold Glove award last season for his prowess in right field, but was unable to overcome Parra in this year’s race.  Andrelton Simmons was considered by most to be a shoe-in for the coveted Gold Glove, and the results were not surprising as Simba won his first of probably many Gold Glove awards to come!  In a special, hour-long announcement show on ESPN2 this evening, we learned about Simmons’ winning the award.

Our own Alan Carpenter went over the numbers for both Heyward and Simmons, as well as some of the other finalists in the National League, so I won’t repeat that.  I would like to take a moment though, on behalf of all of us at Tomahawk Take, to congratulate both Jason Heyward for being a finalist, and especially Andrelton Simmons for winning the Rawlings Gold Glove award for shortstop in 2013.

Simba not only deserved to win the Gold Glove this year for his outstanding work at shortstop, but many of you may not realize that Andrelton is the first Braves’ infielder to win it since Terry Pendelton!  Braves’ MLB reporter, Mark Bowman pointed out that very significant stat for Simba on Twitter…

Even though I won’t bother to go over Smba’s amazing numbers this year, I will share with you a number of videos of Simba doing his thing at short.  The videos are as fine a tribute to Andrelton as anything we could write.  After all, what could really be better than just watching him do his magic?  We hope that he’ll be doing that same magic in Atlanta for years to come.
