On Saturday afternoon the Atlanta Braves take on the San Francisco Giants at At&T Park at 4:05pm ET for the third game of a four game series.  The Braves send out lefty Paul Maholm to the mound to try and pick up his fifth win of the 2013 season.  Maholm started off with a 3-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in his first three starts but then lost his next three starts.  He bounced back against Cincinnati to pick up his fourth win going 5.2 innings giving up four hits and two earned runs.

San Fran puts Madison Bumgarner in the pitcher slot for the Saturday game.  Bumgarner is looking to continue his hot streak in 2013 as he is 3-1 with a 2.31 ERA.  He began the season just as Maholm did with winning his first three starts but since then hasn’t won a game.  His next three starts came against San Diego and Arizona twice…even though pitching extremely well, his offense wasn’t able to help him out at all.  His last start against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 6th he let five earned runs cross the plate off seven hits and scored his first loss of the season.

The 23-year-old lefty out of Hickory, North Carolina has had kinda good success off the Braves during his young career.  Though in 2011 in his first start against the Braves, Atlanta knocked him out in the third inning after they tagged him for three runs early in the game and the Braves won 4-1.  In his next start against the Braves, still in 2011, Atlanta was able to score two runs off eight hits to win 5-4, though Madison got the no decision.  In 2012, Bumgarner was on the mound again twice for San Fran against the Braves but both times lost the battle.  The Braves tagged him for three runs in his first start and four runs in his second.

The Braves have won all four times they have faced Madison Bumgarner so hopefully they will continue the winning streak.  And to note, Justin Upton wasn’t with the Braves during these games and he has had tremendous at bats versus him.  He has eight hits off 14 at bats.  B.J. Upton has never faced Bumgarner, could be a good thing or four more strikeouts…time will tell.

Below is a look at the career statistics of the Braves players against Madison Bumgarner.
