‘Take Classic Video of the Day: Fire at Fulton County

When I think back to the year of 1993, it was a good one.

I was just 11 years old. I played Tony La Russa Baseball and Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis like crazy. I got the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Van for my big Christmas present. A mother cat mistakenly left behind an entire pack of her kittens outside our porch, allowing for me to have the pick of the litter. I made the All-Star team in Little League and won the team MVP award.

And further down south from where my life was evolving, Atlanta’s Fulton County Stadium was catching fire. You might even remember it–it was the day the Braves were set to unveil The Crime Dog Fred McGriff to their fan base fresh off of a trade from the San Diego Padres.

At the 1:44 mark, Jeff Blauser tells us what it’s like to have your stadium burning in flames behind you while you try and take some semblance of batting practice.

Do you remember where you were that day in late July 1993 that Fulton County Stadium caught fire?
