Earlier this week in his post The Great RBI Debate, Clint argued that the RBI isn’t a completely meaningless statistic. Perhaps it’s just my closet traditionalism speaking, or the fact that I grew up watching ’90s baseball where both the home run and RBI were glorified, but sometimes I wish that I could agree with him. At the same time, I know that I probably never will. As MJ later pointed out, we now have a slew of advanced metrics that measure every aspect of a player’s performance.
Like him, I also believe that RE24 is a valuable tool for gauging a player’s level of contribution and importance to his respective team. I find it especially practical when determining a player’s value in a single game. Therefore, I thought that I would offer a statistical representation of the Braves’ top single-game performances from this past season, as determined by RE24. And to keep things interesting, the worst single-game performances, as well.
