Two Wishes

Hello again everyone from sunny and cool Michigan.

I know that you guys must get tired of reading things like “Executive X did a really dumb thing” or “Manager G must have been born without the use of his brain” over and over again. As a writer, though, I’d ask you to cut us some slack when it’s fairly obvious that the behavior is happening regularly. Towards that end, and to save you guys from reading similar copy repeatedly, I’m here today to ask Fredi Gonzalez to grant me and the Braves fandom just two wishes. Please. OK; pretty please!

My first wish is this: One week with no sacrifice bunting except by the pitcher and then only with no outs. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that outs are your most precious asset, especially when the odds of getting a hit after a sacrifice bunt are as low as they are when your team batting average is as low as the Braves is. On the other hand, I have to point out that it’s well established that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. Fredi, how has that sacrifice bunting been working out for you so far?

The second wish is primarily for Fredi, but extends to Braves players as well, most notably Brian McCann. I wish that you would play the next two weeks without wearing a cap. With no cap, you won’t be able to “just tip your cap” to the opposing pitcher. I’m tired of reading this quote over and over after some 5+ ERA journeyman has just shut us out on two hits (or some other reasonable facsimile there of). Just say no, OK? Maybe if the team no longer feels this way, we’ll no longer act this way.

Whew, I’m glad that’s off my chest! Has anyone else felt this way lately?
