Minor (League) Attractions.

On an off day here’s an update on some Braves minor leaguers you may have missed.

Catcher Braeden SchlehuberCarolina League’s player of the week.

Braeden Schlehuber Atlanta Braves 2008 4th round draft pick Braeden Schlehuber had a heck of a week. He doubled in four games from Monday to Friday. From Tuesday through Saturday each game was multi-hit. On Friday and Saturday one of those hits was a homer.  He had a 3 for 3 game with a walk midweek – his second in six days – and stole a base. His slash line for the week when he went 10 for 22 was .455/.480/.909. Last year Schlehuber hit .115 in 27 games in the Carolina League but he appears to be figuring it out and might well move up later this.

Welcome Jeff, Keep it up

The Braves newest acquisition outfielder Jeff Fiorentino got into two games for the Mississippi Braves last week going 2 for 6 (both doubles) walked twice, drove in one run and scored 3 runs himself. On the year his line is .258/.373/.468 with 2 homers and 14 RBI he’s walked 12 times but struck out 15.

Tyler Pastornicky was feeling his oats last Wednesday during a double header with Chattanooga going 5-9 with 2 homers a double an 4 RBI.  The double dip gave him five straight multi-hit games and he added another on Friday raising his final line to .304/.358/.429. He has 2 homers, 2 triples 4 doubles and 13 RBI.

Welcome Back Scott, sorry we kicked your butt..ok we’re not but it’s good to see you.

Remember all the hoopla about the trade of Scott Diamond? His old pals at  Gwinnett slapped him around a bit scoring  five times three plus innings. Shortly after Diamond left Anthony Varvaro arrived. Varvaro went three shutout innings to earn a save in the same game.

Next Game

Back to work tomorrow against the pesky Nats. Tim Hudson starts the opened against former Brave (and Cub, Cardinal, Rocky) Jason Marquis/ Huddy’s been hot Marquis has not (2-4 with an 8.00 ERA)  Alex Gonzales may be back but I hope Fredi holds him out because we’ll need him more against the Phillies at the end of the week and a prolonged injury to AGon would be hard to overcome.
