8/21: Braves Minor League Scoreboard

Charlotte 8, Gwinnett 6
Jose Ortegano: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 5 BB, 2 K
Freddie Freeman: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Joe Thurston: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI
Wilkin Ramirez: 1-4, HR, RBI
Matt Young: 3-4, 2 2B, BB

After a few good starts, Ortegano returned to his normal ways with a terrible outing. Scott Proctor and Stephen Marek each walked two in their scoreless frames. Freeman hit his 17th home run and drove in RBIs 79 and 80. Gwinnett hit three homers but fell short.

Tennessee 7, Mississippi 2
J.J. Hoover: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 7 K
Eric Duncan: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI

Hoover was knocked around pretty bad in his AA debut, giving up three doubles, a triple, and a homer over four-plus innings, including five walks. He did strike out seven, making it a certifiable wacky outing. His promotion also makes Mississippi this week’s hot spot for Braves pitching…until they all move up to Gwinnett.

Myrtle Beach 8, Kinston 7
Matthew Crim: 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, BB, 4 K
Samuel Sime: 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI
Jordan Kreke: 2-4, 2B, RBI

Crim gave up four doubles and four singles in five innings, so it wasn’t a pretty outing for the lefty. He has given up at least three runs without going past 5.1 innings in each of his last three starts. Several MB hitters added an RBI but the two above provided the most damage. Mycal Jones picked up a single and walk and scored twice. Michael Jones did the same.

West Virginia 4, Rome 3
Chris Masters: 5 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 K
David Francis: 4 IP, 2 H, BB, 8 K
Robert Hefflinger: 2-3, 2 2B, BB

Masters was knocked around for two doubles and a homer in five innings, and he also walked four. He has been consistently not that good over a rather long stretch now and hasn’t been able to go deeper than six innings.

Danville 9, Greeneville 4
Kyle Farrell: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 K
Andrelton Simmons: 3-5, 2B, RBI
Barrett Kleinknecht: 2-4, HR, RBI, BB
Kenny Fleming: 2-4, 3 RBI
Jace Whitmer: 2-4, HR, RBI
Elmer Reyes: 1-3, 2B, RBI, 2 BB

Farrell was pretty efficient in seven innings of work, allowing one double and four singles with no walks. He induced nine grounders to five fly balls. Farrell hasn’t given up a walk in his last five starts. Kleinknecht is 16-41 in his last ten games.

GCL Blue Jays 6, GCL Braves 2
Cole Rohrbough: 2 IP, H, 4 K
Victor Cadette: 1-4, HR, RBI

Apparently I missed Rohrbough’s return but this was his second appearance for the GCL Braves after pitching a perfect inning a couple days ago.

DSL Braves 4, DSL Rangers 0
Elvin Garcia: 6 IP, 4 H, 5 K
Felix Marte: 1-1, 2B, RBI
