Gwinnett 4, Durham 1
Jose Ortegano: 5 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Eric O’Flaherty: 1 IP
Joe Thurston: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI
Ortegano gave up two doubles and three singles in five innings, walking two. He has pitched better lately, holding the opposition to three runs or less in each of his last four starts. Cory Gearrin pitched two scoreless innings and Craig Kimbrel did the same in the ninth. Barbaro Canizares, Luis Bolivar, and Wilkin Ramirez each had two hits. Nate McLouth went 0-4 again.
Montgomery 7, Mississippi 1
Randall Delgado: 7 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 5 K
Delgado only gave up five hits but two were doubles and he walked four, resulting in five runs. The runs came quick so he was still able to go seven innings. Delgado continues to struggle with control, walking 16 in 25 innings for Mississippi. Michael Daniel, Jesus Sucre, and Yasser Gomez each had two hits. Jordan Schafer went 0-4 and is hitting .179.
Potomac 7, Myrtle Beach 5
Matthew Crim: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, BB, 2 K
Gerardo Rodriguez: 2-5, 2B, HR, 3 RBI
Luis Sumoza: 3-5, 2B, 3B
Crim gave up two homers in five-plus innings and only struck out two. He did get nine grounders to five fly balls and only allowed two other hits. Cole Miles went 2-4 with a double. Mycal Jones continued to show good discipline with two more walks and an RBI.
Augusta 4, Rome 2
Chris Masters: 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 6 K
Robert Hefflinger: 1-2, HR, RBI
Joe Leonard: 2-4, RBI
Masters gave up two doubles and five singles and wasn’t helped much by defense. It wasn’t a bad outing; he issued zero walks and struck out six in six innings. Matthew Weaver added three singles and Todd Cunningham added a double.
Burlington 5, Danville 4
Kyle Farrell: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 4 K
Elmer Reyes: 2-3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI
Kurt Fleming: 2-3, 2B, RBI
Farrell almost matched Masters’ outing at Rome, except Farrell was knocked around a little more. He gave up two doubles and a triple in less than six innings, though he didn’t walk any. He got seven grounders to four fly balls. A day after going 2-4 with a double, homer, and three RBIs, Reyes almost matched it again. He has a .808 OPS with five homers at Danville, but he isn’t walking at all. Andrelton Simmons added an RBI double.
