Rochester 2, Gwinnett 0
Kenshin Kawakami: 3 IP, 5 H, 2 R, ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Wes Timmons, Barbaro Canizares, Brent Clevlen: 2 hits each
Kawakami allowed a lot of baserunners in three innings and gave up a home run. He hasn’t exactly been Mr. Shut Down in two appearances but you can’t expect much from him right now. Gwinnett had seven hits but all singles and no runs. Freddie Freeman and Nate McLouth both went 0-3 with a walk.
Mississippi 12, Montgomery 2
Julio Teheran: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 6 K
Willie Cabrera: 2-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Eric Duncan: 3-4, 3B, 2 RBI, BB
Tyler Pastornicky: 2-5, 3 RBI
Antoan Richardson: 1-3, 2 RBI, BB
Teheran put together another great start at AA, allowing two extra base hits and three singles with no walks in seven innings. A triple resulted in a run on a groundout in the second inning and the other run came in the seventh on a double, single, and double play. Neither of Teheran’s runs scored on a hit. At one point he retired 13 in a row. Teheran has allowed seven runs in 23.1 innings with ten walks and 23 strikeouts. Jordan Schafer walked three times. I thought that was pretty big.
Myrtle Beach 8, Frederick 4
Zeke Spruill: 6 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 5 K
Michael Jones: 2-4, HR, RBI
Jordan Kreke: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI
L.V. Ware: 2-4, 2B, RBI
Matthew Kennelly: 1-3, HR, RBI, BB
Spruill performed some magic tonight by giving up four doubles and a homer but only three runs in six innings. He continued his excellent control with zero walks, making it four total in 43.2 innings this season. The Pelicans were power hungry as they hit three long balls and added three doubles. Gerardo Rodriguez went 2-4 with a double. Mycal Jones picked up four walks.
Augusta 5, Rome 3
Robinson Lopez: 2 IP, H, 3 BB, K
Jeffrey Lorick: 3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 K
Matthew Weaver: 2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Philip Gosselin: 2-3, BB
Lopez continued to struggle with walks despite seeing just two innings, walking three. He has walked 14 in his last 24 innings. Lorick’s struggles continued as he has allowed eight runs in his last 10.2 innings. His first appearance as a starter was very promising but it’s been brutal since, whether he has started or not. Weaver and Gosselin were the only contributors on offense.
Danville 4, Bluefield 1
David Filak: 2 IP, H, 3 K
Lucas La Point: 6 IP, 3 H, R, 9 K
Evan Gattis: 3-4, HR, 2 RBI
Joseph Terdoslavich: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI
Filak and La Point were strikeout machines over eight innings total, punching out 12. La Point struggled in his last start by allowing four runs on ten hits in four innings, so this is a big rebound. He now has five walks and 36 strikeouts in 39.1 innings.
GCL Braves 7, GCL Pirates 3
Ian Marshall: 4 IP, 2 H, ER, 4 K
Daniel Falcon: 3-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI
Ryan Query: 2-4, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI
Carlos Franco: 2-3, HR, RBI
After struggling over his last several starts, Marshall put together a nice rebound start tonight by allowing a single and a solo homer with no walks.
GCL Pirates 4, GCL Braves 2
Eduardo Castillo: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, BB, 3 K
Kurt Fleming: 1-4, HR, RBI
Ryan Query: 1-3, HR, RBI
Castillo gave up a two-run homer and three runs total in four innings. Fleming added a double in the previous game and a homer in the second one. Query had a pretty good day all around as well. Matt Lipka added a single and a walk.
