8/5: Braves Minor League Scoreboard

Gwinnett 6, Lehigh Valley 1
Mike Minor: 1.2 IP, H, 2 BB, 2 K
Jose Ortegano: 4.1 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, 4 K
Freddie Freeman: 3-4, HR, 3 RBI
Joe Thurston: 2-3, 2B, RBI, 2 BB
Wes Timmons: 2-4, 3 R, BB

Minor made his last AAA appearance and seemed to be on a pitch count because he didn’t make it the full two innings, throwing 44 pitches – 26 for strikes – and walking two. Ortegano backed him with a pretty good four-plus innings. Lee Hyde, Stephen Marek, and Craig Kimbrel combined for five strikeouts in three scoreless innings. Freeman hit his 15th home run. Nate McLouth picked up a single and three walks. Brandon Hicks added an RBI triple.

Mobile 6, Mississippi 2
Randall Delgado: 5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, ER, 4 BB, 5 K
Donell Linares: 3-4, RBI
Mauro Gomez: 2-4, 2B

Delgado suffered from bad defense and bad control. He struck out the first two batters of the game and after two walks, the defense committed two straight errors to extend the inning. The next batter promptly tripled in three runs. A single and triple brought home his other run allowed, the only earned. Otherwise he did pretty good. He walked two more and hit one but pitched scoreless ball over the next three innings. It looked ugly but Delgado didn’t pitch that terrible, except the four walks. Linares and Gomez were the only offense.

Potomac 7, Myrtle Beach 1
J.J. Hoover: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
L.V. Ware: 2-3, HR, RBI
Michael Jones: 2-3, BB

Hoover was knocked around a good bit, allowing three doubles, a triple, and two home runs. It’s the most runs he has allowed since June 27. Ware drove in the only run on a long ball. He and Jones combined for four of the team’s five hits.

Rome 1, Savannah 0
Willie Kempf: 6 IP, 5 H, 6 K
Osman Marval: 2-3

Kempf pitched much better in his second Rome start, scattering five singles and not walking any while striking out six in six scoreless innings. Marval had two of the team’s four hits. Edward Salcedo picked up a single and scored the only run in the game. Salcedo is slowly hitting better, recording a hit every other day now it seems.

Kingsport 12, Danville 4
Kyle Farrell: 7 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 4 K
Barrett Kleinknecht: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI
Joseph Terdoslavich: 2-4, 2B
Andrelton Simmons: 2-4

Home runs hurt Farrell as he gave up two in seven innings. He gave up just one double and the rest singles and showed solid control by not walking any. Jace Whitmer added an RBI and the rest of the offense is listed above. A few days off seemed to help Simmons as he ended an 0-8 skid with two hits.

GCL Yankees 9, GCL Braves 4
Ian Marshall: 4.1 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, BB, K
Ryan Query: 1-4, 2B, 3 RBI
Cory Brownsten: 1-3, 2 R, RBI
Daniel Falcon: 2-4, 2B

Marshall had one of his worst outings, not making it through five innings and allowing five runs. He almost matched this outing in the start before his last one against the Yankees. The offensive numbers above are the only ones worth mentioning.

DSL Braves 5, DSL Angels 4
Jean Carlos Gil: 5 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Ignacio Geronimo: 3 IP, H, BB, 5 K
Gerardo Reyes: 2-6, 2B, 2 RBI
Armando Alcantara: 3-6, 2 R

Gil pitched perhaps his worst game so far this season, giving up two doubles and four runs in five innings. The four runs are the most he has allowed as a starter. Ignacio extended his earned run scoreless streak to 15 innings with three scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 0.59. The five walks upped his total to 31 in 30.2 innings.
