Louisville 7, Gwinnett 4
Jose Ortegano: 4 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, BB, 7 K
Brent Clevlen: 2-4, 3 RBI
Ortegano continues to kill himself, getting knocked around for six runs on nine hits in four innings. Two of the hits were doubles and two were homers. Clevlen provided three of the four runs in his return to Gwinnett. Barbaro Canizares picked up the other run on a pinch hit, RBI single. Gregor Blanco and Wes Timmons each had two hits.
Tennessee 12, Mississippi 5
Kyle Cofield: 2.2 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, BB, 2 K
Benino Pruneda: 2 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, K
Eric Duncan: 3-4, 2B, HR, RBI
Willie Cabrera: 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI
Cofield is having a bit of a hard time when he starts games and that point was magnified by a thousand tonight. As a starter, Cofield has allowed 17 earned runs in 23.2 innings. As a reliever, he has pitched 5.2 shutout innings. No huge innings amounts, but it’s worth noting anyway. Those listed above were the only offense other than an RBI double by Mauro Gomez and two runs scored by Tyler Pastornicky.
Frederick 8, Myrtle Beach 5
Brett Oberholtzer: 4 IP, 10 H, 8 ER, BB, 2 K
L.V. Ware: 3-4, HR, 2 RBI
Mycal Jones: 2-5, HR, RBI
Braeden Schlehuber: 1-3, HR, RBI
Michael Jones: 2-4, RBI
Oberholtzer easily had the worst outing of his season. His previous high for runs allowed with Myrtle Beach was three runs in seven innings. The struggles must be running through the system like an epidemic tonight. The Pelican offense did their best to back Oberholtzer, recording three homers. Cory Harrilchak added two hits.
Rome 6, Lexington 5
Chris Masters: 5 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Jeffrey Lorick: 1 IP, H
Phil Gosselin: 3-4, 3B, RBI
Ramon Flores: 1-3, 3B, 2 RBI
Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg: 3-4
Lorick recorded his fourth save and now has gone 8.2 innings without giving up an earned run. He has allowed four earned runs in 29.2 innings for Rome this season. Joe Leonard added an RBI single. Can’t leave him out.
Johnson City 12, Danville 5
Barrett Kleinknecht: 3-4, 2B, HR, RBI
Evan Gattis: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI
Those two are about all worth mentioning. It wasn’t pretty on the mound for Danville. Jakob Dalfonso and Alberto Odreman each added an RBI. Jarred Frierson went 2-4 and is 13-40 with six walks and nine strikeouts for Danville. He’s a switch-hitting second baseman but it appears he doesn’t run. He’s old for the league anyway.
GCL Yankees 13, GCL Braves 7
Ian Marshall: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Matt Lipka: 1-5, 3B, 3 RBI
Cody Johnson: 2-4, HR, RBI
Brandon Drury: 1-5, 2B, RBI
Marshall was knocked around some but only two of the eight hits were doubles and half the runs were unearned. Lipka now has an RBI in four straight games and has six over that stretch. Like I said last night, Johnson could hit a homer and strike out twice at any level. He has done it two straight games for the GCL Braves now.
