Paul Konerko‘s hit an eighth inning home run off of Takashi Saito gave the White Sox a 2-0 lead and eventual victory and series sweep over the Atlanta Braves. Derek Lowe matched White Sox starter pitch for pitch in what was an outstanding pitchers duel.
Lowe pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball while allowing no runs. Gavin Floyd was even better pitching seven scoreless but allowing the Braves only two hits.
The game remained scoreless until Konerko’s blast in the eighth gave the White Sox the lead for good. J.J. Putz and Bobby Jenks each pitched a scoreless frame to close out the Braves.
Chipper Jones and Eric Hinske were the only Braves to garner base hits.
The series sweep has the Braves in a three game losing streak and clinging to a half a game lead in the National League East over the New York Mets. The Braves return home tonight to begin a three game series with the Detroit Tigers. Kris Medlen will get the start for the Braves.
