As expected the Braves have called up pitcher Chris Resop hours before the deadline in which they either had to promote him or release him. The club reportedly had been shopping him in trade but were unable to find what they were looking for. Resop began his career as a reliever but played a year in Japan, added another pitch and has become a successful starter.
Resop was 5-2 with a 1.84 ERA at Triple A Gwinnett.
Resop will join the Braves bullpen in the place of the struggling Jesse Chavez. It is not known at this time what role that might be. He will also provide some depth to the rotation should one of those pitchers go down due to injury.
