Atlanta Braves Third Baseman Chipper Jones set the franchise record for career bases on balls during Thursday nights game against the Florida Marlins. Chipper walked twice on the night and passed Eddie Matthews for the all time lead. Jones now has 1378 walks in 9441 plate appearances.

Earlier in the day Chipper was interviewed by a Miami radio station and again speculated that he could retire at the end of this season.

“I am seriously considering it no matter how this year ends up for the Atlanta Braves,” Jones told 790 The Ticket. “It’s something that’s still in the works but hasn’t been ruled out for the end of the year. I’m not going to stick around and hamstring this organization if I’m not playing well and not enjoying myself.”“We’ve still got a long way to go this year and hopefully a lot of good things will happen between now and the end,”“Nothing is out of play at this point. I think the closer and closer we get to the end of the year, the more clear it’ll be to me. I can tell you that the money part of it is not a factor.”

Chipper is definitely leaving the door open that if he continues to struggle then he could in fact walk away at the end of the season. He has repeatedly said that he doesn’t want to hang on too long and that he will step out graciously when it is time. If he does in fact hang it up he will close the book on one of the best careers of Braves player ever. Not to mention one of the greatest all time as a switch hitter.
