Matt Diaz Has Surgery, Out Atleast a Month

Matt Diaz had successful surgery to remove pieces of a splinter that were causing an infection from his right thumb. While the Braves haven’t released an exact estimate on how long Diaz will be out, it figures to be a long time. Perhaps a month or longer.
According to Diaz, the injury has been bothering him since late April. Clearly he has struggled this year hitting only .178 in 26 games this season. Brett Clevlen was called up to take Diaz’s spot on the active roster.
