Johny Venters makes MLB debut

Johny Venters, the Atlanta Braves minor league relief pitcher who some consider the best relief pitcher prospect in baseball, made his MLB debut tonight in the 6th inning, trailing the Colorado Rockies 4-0.

Venters throws in the mid-90s range and struck out his first batter that he based, albeit it was the Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez.

Jimenez is pitching a no hitter into the bottom of the 6th inning and is still pitching in the high 90s as he is 10 pitches away from 100 for the night.

It is surprising to see Venters called up so quickly. Unfortunately it could be a sign that Bobby Cox is already losing confidence in his bull pen.

A day after Derek Lowe went 3-0 on the season with an opening game win against the series against the Rockies, Kenshin Kawakami was pounded for four earned runs in 5 innings pitched.
