As was expected this morning , the Atlanta Braves placed catcher Brian McCann on the 15-day disabled list.

The move has been made retroactive to Thursday — with McCann sitting Friday night’s game against the Reds — so he will be eligible to return to the Braves lineup on May 8 for the series opener with Philadelphia.

"“I’ve been dealing with this since Opening Day, and I’d rather take a couple of weeks to get this thing squared away so that I can finish the season instead of grinding it out every single day, not knowing what I’m going to get with my eyesight,” McCann told MLB.com. “It just got to the point where I wasn’t helping my team or myself.”"

The Braves have also officially recalled Clint Sammons from AAA Gwinnett to take McCann’s roster spot. He will serve as the backup catcher for today’s game against the Reds.
