Breaking: Garret Anderson Placed on 15-day Disabled List

The Braves finally did what they should have done two weeks ago.

Left fielder Garret Anderson was placed on the 15-day disabled list this afternoon, retroactive April 20, and Brandon Jones was recalled from AAA Gwinnett to fill his spot on the 25-man roster.

Along with the strained right calf muscle he has been dealing with since the start of the season, Anderson also strained his left quadriceps muscle in the first inning of Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh.

The 36-year old outfielder has been the subject of much criticism after signing a one-year contract worth$2.5 million with Atlanta in late February. He missed a large portion of Spring Training and has played in only 10 games so far this season — hitting .200 in just 25 at-bats with no home runs and no runs-batted-in.

Jones, who is expected to be in Cincinnati for tonight’s series opener against the Reds, was batting .308 in 14 games with Gwinnett.

Glad to see Jones get the call — he deserved it. The 25-year old had a .315 average in 54 at-bats this spring.
