This is the month when the Atlanta Braves will need to pull away from the Philadelphia Phillies as they play them 10 times.

August (27 games — Record: 19-8)

The Braves start off August by finishing a four-game set at home against the Mets. They’ll need to win at least two of those.

And then they finally get a bit of a break against a good, but young, Toronto Blue Jays team. This is going to be the Braves first sweep of the season.

That leads into perhaps the most difficult stretch of the season for the Braves as they play four on the road against the Phillies and then two at Yankee Stadium.

If they just go 3-3 on that road trip I’d consider it a success.

That road trip continues with a trip to Miami where they’ll get their second three-game sweep of the season.

And then they get their first matchup of the 2020 season against the defending champs in the Washington Nationals with a three-game set at home. in which the Braves will avoid Scherzer (fingers crossed) and win the series.

That’s followed with another brutal stretch in which they play six games against the Phillies (three at home and three on the road) and host two games against the Yankees.

I think the Braves use the momentum from the Nationals series and go 5-3 in that stretch before ending the month with a win against the Red Sox.
