Next 30 — Infielders and Catchers

Catchers (3): Alex Jackson, William Contreras, and Shea Langeliers

Infielders (7): Yonder Alonso, Bryce Ball, Sean Kazmar Jr., Pete Kozma, Braden Shewmake, Yangervis Solarte, and Riley Unroe.

Now we get into the “next 30” and I think we can have some debate about who the Braves send to Gwinnett and whether they should send all 30 or not.

I think it makes a lot of sense to send a lot of your top prospects there to give them more reps and get more of a look at them.

That’s why I include players like Shea Langeliers and Bryce Ball on this list.

Langy was actually having a very good spring and I think it makes a lot of sense to send him to Gwinnett and let him continue to progress as I think he could join the Braves as early as next season.

Ball was impressive in spring training 1.0 as well, but those calling for him to be the team’s DH in 2020 need to slow down. The Braves already have a lot of very good, proven bats on the bench that can fill the DH spot.

Jackson is the key here as he’s likely the best option at catcher (and possibly the only real option) if something happens to TDA or Flowers. I’m not sure the Braves would push Contreras and certainly not Langy at this point.

Solarte, Kazmar, and Kozma all provide solid infield depth should the Braves ever need them. But with the depth they already have on the infield, it would be a disaster if they needed to be called upon.
