What would happen with the Atlanta Braves in an expansion draft?

The Atlanta Braves “Keepers”

Some of the 15 protected players that the Atlanta Braves would protect are fairly obvious and I think it would be a very easy decision to go ahead and label the following players as going nowhere.

  • Ronald Acuna
  • Freddie Freeman
  • Ozzie Albies
  • Mike Soroka
  • Max Fried

That obviously leaves 10 spots left to be used upon. A ton of talent would still be remaining within the Atlanta Braves organization. The next five players would also surely be an easy call for the Braves front office to put an “exempt” tag on.

  • Mike Foltynewicz
  • Dansby Swanson
  • Will Smith
  • Sean Newcomb
  • Austin Riley

Here’s another very interesting spot the Atlanta Braves would find themselves in compared to most other clubs. As of now, the Atlanta Braves for all intents and purposes have no bad contracts on the books. Some teams may risk leaving a better player off in order to get rid of a bad contract. Yet, another advantage the Atlanta Braves would find themselves having over most other clubs around the league.

So after the previous ten players, we obviously still have five spots to fill. I think this is where it would get interesting and I think the Atlanta Braves would opt to protect a couple of their highly regarded prospects who would be eligible to be taken.

  • Cristian Pache
  • Ian Anderson
  • Kyle Wright
  • Chris Martin
  • Johan Camargo

Some might ask why the Braves would keep Camargo in this instance, I for one believe his versatility would be too valuable to risk losing for next to nothing.
