A new look at the Atlanta Braves 2020 schedule
Second Half
JULY
Back in Atlanta for a long stretch before the All-Star break, the Braves host the Angels, Pirates, and a Cubs team that might be showcasing Kris Bryant by then.
After 3 games in Denver, things get tougher again: Oakland, Washington, Cincy, and then Washington again… this last series spilling over into August.
So July is… moderate start, tough finish.
AUGUST
August 1st finds Atlanta with 2 more games to finish up the Washington series, then it’s not too terrible with sets against the Cubs, Miami, Mets, Miami again (ending the season series), Milwaukee, Philly, two more games with Oakland, then finally the Rockies.
It will be interesting to see whether Bryant or Arenado are still with their current clubs at that time. If not, this could be a decent month for Atlanta… especially if they’ve picked up one of those players!
SEPTEMBER
It would be a great idea to have a sizable division lead coming into September, for things could get a bit whacky here.
The series sets are: Washington, Pittsburgh, Mets, Phillies, Milwaukee, Phillies, Washington, and Houston.
- 7 games vs. the Nats this month – at the beginning and near the end
- 6 vs. Philadelphia in the middle… hopefully their hopes and dreams are crushed by then
- 7 games at home to finish the schedule
- 3 vs. Houston at the end… perhaps they won’t matter by then?
If the Braves and Nats are both still in the race, this will be fun – great stuff for all fans.
The season ends on September 27th with another of these popular ‘everybody plays at the same time’ setups.
So in theory, June is going to be the roughest month for the Atlanta Braves, but even that could change depending on the health of all considered. The Braves have some depth to weather such storms… some of their rivals might struggle there.
