Monthly Highlights

First, here’s a list of the assumptions here… teams on the schedule that are better or worse after this Winter:

  • MUCH BETTER
    • Cincinnati
    • Mets (if their bullpen upgrades take)
  • BETTER
    • Marlins
    • Phillies (Didi, Cutch, Wheeler)
    • Dodgers (if pitching holds up)
    • Angels
  • UNCERTAIN
    • Padres
    • D-Backs
    • A’s
    • Rangers
  • WORSE
    • Cardinals
    • Cubs (maybe)
    • Rockies
    • Brewers
    • Nationals (Rendon)
    • Pirates
    • Red Sox
    • Astros
  • MUCH WORSE
    • Giants
    • Mariners

MARCH/APRIL

Once returning from San Diego, Atlanta opens at Truist on April 3 against the Marlins, then the Padres show up… finish this home-and-home exchange season series for the year with them on April 8th.

After that, it’s Miami again, the Mets, Giants, Arizona again (also completing that season series), the Mets again, and finally the Reds end April.

Last year, we would have rejoiced at this schedule.  It’s still not terrible, but there’s reasons not to be complacent with it.

The Giants are really the lone pushover and the Marlins will be better.  I’ve noted that it’s going to be very difficult for the Braves to repeat a 15-4 record over them again this season.

The Reds might be the class of an odd NL Central… we should know just how good by the time this series rolls around.

Still, it’s a jump out of the gate that Atlanta needs to take advantage of.

MAY

Opens on the road vs. the Mets and Phillies.  Miami comes back to Truist again, then so does Boston.

That trip to San Fran is next, followed by the Cardinals… and who know what they will look like at this point?

The Mets come back to Atlanta and the Cards will follow them (finishing that home-and-home set).  Then Atlanta heads to Seattle.

This could be reasonably good for the Braves in May as well.  Boston won’t be the same, the Phillies aren’t much different overall from what we’re used to; ditto for the Mets.

The Giants, Marlins, and Seattle should be beatable.  May is okay.

JUNE

Now things finally get rough.  Dodgers. Phillies.  Nationals.  Dodgers again.  Red Sox.  Nationals again.  Phillies again.

After that gauntlet, the Marlins and Rangers complete the year… with the Braves getting their first look in the Rangers’ new park.
