Catcher

One obvious selection here is going to be Tyler Flowers who the Braves just re-signed for $4 million.

As much as I complain about Flowers, he is a solid veteran catcher and one Atlanta will need in 2020.

But what the Braves do at the other catcher spot will be very interesting.

The best internal option is Alex Jackson, but I seriously doubt they will start the 2020 season with a combo of Flowers and Jackson.

Most likely the Braves acquire a veteran catcher through free agency or trade.

It’s really hard to now what catchers could be available in a trade, so I’ll stick with the free agent options.

Yasmani Grandal is out of the question as I think that money will be better spent elsewhere.

Robinson Chirinos and Jason Castro are much more affordable targets as they could get them on one or two-year deals until Shea Langeliers and William Contreras are ready.

I’m going to say they sign Castro for two years and $10 million, which is what he’s projected to sign for by MLB Trade Rumors.

One interesting name to keep an eye on in trade talks is the San Diego Padres Austin Hedges. He’s young, cheap, and is great defensively.

But I doubt the Braves would want to go with two defense-first catchers.
