ALDS

New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins

The ALDS matchups don’t appear to be nearly as exciting on paper as the NL matchups, but that could be my very heavy NL bias.

One thing is for sure, if you like home runs, you won’t want to miss this series between the Twins and Yankees.

The Twins led all of baseball with 307 home runs this year, but the Yankees finished right behind them (literally) with 306 long balls.

Quick math tells me that’s over 600 home runs between these two teams in 2019. Good luck to the pitchers in this one.

Eight of our writers picked the Yankees to blast their way to the ALCS, which makes sense when you consider the Twins playoff history at Yankee Stadium.

It’s more split on Twitter where only seven-of-13 picked the Yankees to advance.

Winner: Yankees

Houston Astros vs. AL Wild Card Winner

It almost doesn’t seem fair to pick this one as the Astros are the favorite by almost everyone to not only advance past the ALDS, but to ultimately win the World Series.

That’s often the case when a team has two potential Cy Young winners as the Astros do with Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole.

The Rays and A’s are really great stories as franchisees who live on the margins and someone still seems to be competitive with the big spenders. But they’ll be running up against a buzzsaw here.

Every single one of our staff writers picked the Astros to advance here. However, we did have one brave soul on Twitter who picked the A’s.

Be sure to let @TMurphCards hear it when the Astros sweep their ALDS opponent.

Winner: Astros
