Top offenses clash as Atlanta Braves take on Minnesota Twins
Mike Foltynewicz (2-5, 6.37) vs. Jose Berrios (10-5, 2.80)
In his last start before being demoted to Triple-A, Mike Foltynewicz was roughed up for eight earned runs in four innings against the Nationals.
That was the last straw for everyone and going to Gwinnett was beneficial to all and it looks like Foltynewicz has figured some things out.
Since being demoted, Foltynewicz has allowed 10 earned runs in 33.2 innings, but even more important is he has not allowed a home run in Triple-A.
It’s time to give him another shot.
Foltynewicz is 1-0 with an 8.76 ERA in his career against the Twins and Kepler, Polanco, Sano and Eddie Rosario all have hits off him.
Berrios has established himself as one of the best young pitchers in not only the American League, but all of baseball.
In his last start against the Marlins, Berrios went seven innings, while striking out 11 and allowing no earned runs in seven innings. Over his last five starts, Berrios is 2-1 with a 2.43 ERA in 29.2 innings. At Target Field, he is 5-2 with a 2.10 ERA.
The sample size is small for Braves hitters, as Donaldson is 1-for-2, McCann is 0-for-3, as is Duvall.
Welcome back, Folty. You get to face one of the best offensive teams in the game, as well as face off against one of the best pitchers in the game.
Whether the Braves win or lose this one is somewhat secondary. It is important to see how much Foltynewicz has progressed and if he has fixed the issues that plagued him.
The Twins win by default until I see what Foltynewicz has.
