Top offenses clash as Atlanta Braves take on Minnesota Twins
Mike Soroka (10-2, 2.37) vs. Jake Odorizzi (12-5, 3.73)
In his last start against the Nationals, Mike Soroka was simply brilliant.
He went seven innings, allowed just an earned run and struck out three, but the bullpen blew the win.
His past five starts have been okay, as he is 1-1 with a 3.07 ERA in 29.1 innings.
Soroka has actually been much better on the road than at SunTrust Park. He is 6-0 with a 1.20 ERA and 0.931 WHIP on the road, while being 4-2 with a 4.08 ERA at home.
He has also been dominant against right-handed batters, as they have a .198/.265/.258 line.
This will be the first time Soroka will face the Twins.
Odorizzi has not been nearly as sharp over his past five games as he was during the first three months of the season, which led him to his first All-Star selection.
He has pitched 23 innings over his last five starts and in that span he is 2-2 with a 7.43 ERA, although his last start against Miami was more promising as he allowed an earned run over 5.2 innings.
The two Braves who have played significant time in the American League, Josh Donaldson and Brian McCann, have had plenty of success off Odorizzi.
McCann is 13-31, with three home runs and 10 RBI, while Donaldson is 6-25 with all six of his hits being homers.
Also, Adam Duvall is 2-5 and Freddie Freeman is 1-3.
Soroka’s last start was encouraging, as is his performances on the road. I think the Braves get this one.
