3 Takeaways from a rain shortened win for the Atlanta Braves
By James Kunkle
2. Max Fried was dominant tonight
Max Fried had all his pitches working and had the Red’s lineup off-balance all night long. With the win, he is now 12-4 on the year.
He may be the quietest 12-4 pitcher ever in baseball history. I suspect many people around the game couldn’t tell you he had 12 wins already.
Technically, this will go down as Fried’s first complete game as he did pitch all 6 innings that were played. He came out for the seventh inning but obviously mother nature had other ideas.
If the Atlanta Braves get this Fried back, like he was in April, then all the talk of needing a starting pitcher will be an afterthought.
If he, along with Soroka, Dallas Kuechel, and Julio Teheran pitch like they are all capable of, then the Braves have an above-average rotation.
Another positive was he issued zero walks in the game and only had 4 strikeouts. The strikeout’s being low ended up being a positive as it saved his pitch count tremendously.
And being honest, if you have a defense as good as the Braves is behind you, why not let them work?
With all that being said, let’s hope Fried is back to where he was at the start of the year and has found his awesome command again. It would almost be like the Braves traded for a starter if that is the case.
