Will the Atlanta Braves strike a deal with Toronto for Stroman or Giles?

Would the Atlanta Braves really want to do this?

Let’s translate that to Atlanta Braves language. Cristian Pache is the #13 prospect in all of the major leagues.

He’s not a power prospect like Smoak was, but is certainly a better defender and is expected to grow into his own body, perhaps developing even more power, as he’s shown much increased pop in his bat over the last two seasons.

As far as the major league ready starting pitcher, Beavan could be compared to Kyle Wright, Kolby Allard or Bryse Wilson, really. He was a first rounder, and surely that put some respect on his name at the time.

When looking at pitchers with big arms, used mostly in relief, that are well regarded, but not top prospects, I’d think that would add up to Freddy Tarnok or Thomas Burrows, though Burrows hasn’t shown me much.

As far as a solid, but unranked offensive piece, I think you could slot in Travis Demeritte. Yes, Demeritte’s overall statistical profile is better than Lawson’s ever was, Travis has really only performed at a high level twice:  this year and in 2016. A big strikeout guy, you could easily argue that Demeritte was a guy that would never sniff the big leagues unless he improved, and now he has.

So your starter package for Stroman and Giles looks like Cristian Pache, Bryse Wilson, Freddy Tarnok and Travis Demeritte. It’s quite possible the Blue Jays could look for more.

The Toronto Blue Jays could use an outfielder, so Demeritte might get a shot with Teoscar Hernandez‘s struggles. Wilson would likely see immediate time in the major leagues. Pache likely wouldn’t be rushed in his development, as Toronto reasonably won’t contend next year, but would be an excellent piece. Tarnok, too, would remain in the minors for more seasoning.

At this time of the year, it’s the Hatfields and the McCoys. The fans that want a World Series this year or the fans that are okay with waiting if it means we keep our young talent. After all, we’ve turned into a contender playing a relatively conservative hand.

I’d rather stay put, not overpay and see what happens. Just say no to Stro.
