2. Braves Bullpen Couldn’t Stop The Bleeding

When Bryse Wilson departed from the game, the Atlanta Braves were only down by 2 runs. Jerry Blevins came into the game and allow 1 run on a wild pitch (the run was charged to Wilson).

Blevins did the best job out of the bullpen as he allowed just 1 run on a solo homer from Lorenzo Cain.

Unfortunately, that isn’t where the bleeding would stop. The Brewers would then tag Braves prospect Huascar Ynoa for 6 runs in the 7th inning. The big blow coming from reigning NL MVP Christian Yelich.

Yelich launched a no-doubt grand slam to right-center field and dashed any hope the Braves had left of coming back. Ynoa has not had the most success since being called up to eat some innings when the Braves need a fresh arm.

Touki Toussaint was the final man out of the bullpen and he didn’t have the best outing. Touki has struggled a lot with his fastball command as of late.

Those command issues were on display Tuesday evening as he hit one batter and walked 3 as well. Toussaint walked the bases loaded and walked in a run in the inning. He’s struggled almost every time out lately.

It seems like Touki may go to that splitter a little too much (similar to Luke Jackson utilizing his slider too often). That’s a hard pitch to get a hitter to swing and miss on if you aren’t able to command the fastball.

Not the outing that we needed from these young guys in the bullpen. It definitely drives home the need for another solid bullpen piece. The Braves have two weeks to find that bullpen piece that almost feels like a necessity.

There are a couple of places they can go to find that piece but it’ll be tough with a few teams on the fringe of winning a wild card spot.

It’ll definitely be interesting to see what the front office decides to do in the coming weeks.

Nevertheless, Let’s hope this is an isolated incident and not a sign of things to come from a bullpen that has been the best in all of baseball the past couple of months.
