1. Bryse Wilson Struggles Against Brewers

The Atlanta Braves 5th ranked prospect made yet another spot start on Tuesday night. Bryse has been on the mound for the Braves since Mike Foltynewicz was sent down to Triple-A Gwinnett in June.

There have been mixed results for the young right-hander since being called up. His fastball looks much better than it did in April but he has struggled to have consistent success with his off-speed pitches.

Wilson started off the night on a good note as he tossed a clean 1-2-3 first inning on just 9 pitches. It looked like it was going to be a good night for the youngster.

Unfortunately, that success wouldn’t last very long as the Brewers began to take advantage of his pitches early in the count. As soon as they started to find offensive success, Wilson’s command began to elude him a bit and was only able to give Atlanta 4 total innings of work.

The Brewers offense has been one of the best in baseball in 2019 and despite some recent struggles, they woke up again on Tuesday night. The Brewers chased Wilson after 4 innings of 4 run, 6 hit baseball. He walked 3 batters and struck out just one Brewer.

Bryse Wilson is young and is doing his best to learn on the job but these are games that the Atlanta Braves need him to bear down and pitch well in. Wilson did manage to have one of the Braves five total hits on Tuesday.

So there’s one positive there but it wasn’t on the side of the ball we needed him on. He’s still got a lot of learning to do and I’m hopeful that he will get better with time

I expect that the Braves will address the need for another good piece in the rotation. We can’t simply hope that Foltynewicz and Gausman turn it around. With the recent surge of the Washington Nationals, it’s time to add a couple of pieces to separate Atlanta from the rest of the pack.
