Atlanta Braves Anthony Swarzak

2. How good has Anthony Swarzak been?

Nothing much was made of this trade at the time except it was a “change of scenery” type trade for both teams. Jesse Biddle is already off the Mariners and we all know Arodys Vizcaino will not pitch for them at all. At the same time, Anthony Swarzak has been electric for the Atlanta Braves.

Anthony has pitched in 19 games for the Braves and has accumulated for 19.1 innings pitched. His ERA sits at a sparkling 0.47.

At the same time, he has only allowed 8 hits in those innings while registering 22 strikeouts.

Just to compound on that, Swarzak has only allowed one earned run since joining the Braves from the Mariners.

Now if you were anything like me, this acquisition felt like a reach and you wondered if he would make it past a few weeks. I felt nervous when he comes in the game, but now I fully expect him to come in every game with the lead in the 8th inning. He has more than earned the 8th inning setup role with this team.

So as they mentioned on the broadcast last night, sometimes it is these kinds of deals that make the most difference in playoff races. The Atlanta Braves and all the fans may look back at this deal come October and say this was one of the moves that propelled the Braves to back-to-back division championships.
