10. Oakland Athletics

Matt Chapman gets the nod to replace Yelich in the home run derby. Not sure many people had him being first in the derby over teammate Khris Davis.

9. Washington Nationals

I, along with many others, had the Nationals pegged since the start of the season as the team that would give the Atlanta Braves the biggest obstacle at going back-to-back in the division. That pitching staff has gotten going and that now seems to be true.

8. Boston Red Sox

The Sox ended the first half on a good note after that sour trip to London, but a rematch of last year’s fall classic with the Dodgers is how they start the second half. Should be a fun rematch this upcoming weekend.

7. Cleveland Indians

As the host of this year’s All-Star game, I hope that they do something with Carlos Carrasco who, in case you haven’t heard, was diagnosed with leukemia recently. Everyone in the baseball world is supporting him with the fight.

6. Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa could have easily swept the Yankees this weekend but let them win the first two games of the series in extra innings. With Boston and Cleveland getting hot again, Tampa will need to win all the games they can to preserve a postseason spot.

5. Minnesota Twins

That AL Central lead is diminishing by the week thanks to Cleveland getting hot again. They will get a shot directly at the start of the second half to increase that lead since they start off with Cleveland.

4. Atlanta Braves

It’s a good thing the Atlanta Braves didn’t waste Dallas Keuchel’s fantastic start Sunday and that is thanks in large part to Charlie Culberson. No doubt the unsung hero of this Atlanta Braves team.

3. Houston Astros

The division lead is not as gigantic as it once was but sufficient none the less. Plus with a 1-2 punch of Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole, they will be hard pressed to ever have a long losing streak.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are the class of the NL and the team every team is chasing. Here’s to hoping it is the Atlanta Braves who can defeat them in October this year and prevent the Dodgers from a third straight trip to the World Series.

1. New York Yankees

I don’t think anyone had DJ Lemahieu leading the Yankees at the break in both average and RBI, but here we are and that is the case.
