Game 1-Zack Wheeler vs. Mike Soroka

He’s human after all!

It was finally a struggle for Mike Soroka in his last start, coming off an incredible start to his season.

He lasted five innings, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs. He ended up getting a no-decision as the Braves rallied to beat the Pirates.

Even with his poor outing last week, Soroka is still 3-0 with a 2.94 ERA in his last five outings, with 26 strikeouts and four walks.

In his two career starts against the Mets, Soroka has been dominant. He is 2-0 with a 0.73 ERA. Both of those starts came last season.

With such stellar numbers, there are not any Mets regulars who have fared well against Soroka.

Conforto is 1-for-6, as is Todd Frazier. Amed Rosario is 0-for-4.

Zack Wheeler defeated the Braves on April 12th, going six innings and allowing only two earned runs.

That stat line pretty much matches up with Wheeler’s career against the Braves, as the right-hander is 6-3 with a 3.19 against Atlanta.

Recently, though, Wheeler has struggled.

He went only 4.2 innings last time out against the Yankees and was touched up for 10 hits and nine runs (five earned) in a loss.

In his last five starts, Wheeler is 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA, but still striking out 35 batters.

Freddie Freeman has owned Wheeler over his career. He is 10-for-20 with two home runs, six RBI, and 12 walks in 33 plate appearances.

Tyler Flowers is 5-for-9 with a home run, Nick Markakis is 3-for-7, Brian McCann is 3-for-7 with a home run, and Josh Donaldson is 4-for-7.

Hopefully, this is a bounce-back game for Soroka and the Atlanta Braves hitters mentioned above continue to terrorize Wheeler.
