June 17th MLB Power Rankings: Atlanta Braves soaring high
By James Kunkle
21. Chicago White Sox
The White Sox briefly touched .500 since the very early part of the season this past week before losing two games to the Yankees. They now start a series with the crosstown rivals Cubs. What better way to get back to that .500 mark?
22. Cincinnati Reds
The Reds are still the only last place team in baseball that has a positive run scored differential. Sonny Gray has turned out to be a nice pickup as well and someone who can stabilize the rotation for a couple of years.
23. Pittsburgh Pirates
Despite the Braves sweeping them this past week, I never felt good about any of the games. That Pirate team is a pesky group at the plate and if they had any pitching, they could be right in the middle of the NL Central.
24. Seattle Mariners
I will ask the same question as last week, who’s next? The Mariners may end up trading at least five or six more players before all is said and done.
25. San Francisco Giants
Only two players on the Giants have a WAR above 1.0. Those two players are Evan Longoria and Pablo Sandoval. In fact, former Team USA player Brandon Crawford has a negative WAR.
26. Toronto Blue Jays
While the baseball team north of the border is pretty bad at this point, at least they can rejoice in taking an NBA Championship from the U.S.

27. Miami Marlins
Looking at the positives, the Marlins are starting to see some results from some of the younger pitchers. Caleb Smith and Trevor Richards look like young building blocks for the organization, which means they will probably be traded by the end of 2019.
28. Detroit Tigers
The Tigers have gone 3-11 in the team’s last 14 games. Much like the Marlins though, Spencer Turnbull and Matthew Boyd could be long term building blocks…if they stay on the team.
29. Kansas City Royals
The Royals with a few wins lately have gained ground on the Orioles for the first pick in next years draft. Or should I really say, lost ground?
30. Baltimore Orioles
This team needs a little of everything. A ton of L’s in the recent games played column in the standings.
So that is our MLB Power Rankings for this week. Let us know who is too high and who is too low in the comments section below.
