Willie Carter OF (LF) R/R 6-0 205 NR

Round 34 Overall pick 1027  Webber International U (FL)

I hope this is all about the same Willie Carter. In 2015 Willie Carter graduated from Fort White High School in Lake City, Florida. He dreamed of getting a call from a major league team during the draft but, it didn’t happen.

He attended Pensacola State in 2016-17, hit .355 with six homers, seven doubles, two triples, stole nine bases and still didn’t get a call. As a sophomore, he hit .338 with four homers, 30 RBI, and stole six bases, and no one called.

Carter transferred to Webber this year and hit 10 home runs in his first 18 games; watch.

According to a news release from Webber, he also set a new single-season home run record for the school by slugging 19 long-balls and:

  • A 2019 First-Team NAIA All-American
  • First-Team All-Sun Conference performer, and
  • A two-time Sun Conference Player of the Week honoree

This time Willie got a call.

Year G AB R H RBI 2B 3B HR BB SF K AVG OBP SLG OPS
2019 228 201 40 86 35 13 2 19 39 3 47 .377 .524 .702 1.226

Statistics from Webber International University

All anyone can ask is that they get a shot at their dream. Carter’s 22 this year, and is unlikely to get another opportunity.  Here’s your chance, go get ‘em.

Anthony Hall 1B L/L 6-3 195 NR

Round 35 Overall pick 1057  Point Loma HS (CA

Max Preps shows Hall posted a .323/.383/.453/.837 line with four homers, 15 doubles and a triple in four years of high school ball and a nice swing from the left side.

He’s uncommitted to a school, and the Five Tool West folks are promoting him, so maybe he’ll sign. I’d advise him to find a JuCo where he can play ball and try it again in a year or two. He’ll have a better shot at making it then.

Mitchell Jackson RHP R/R 6-5 165 NR

Round 36 Overall pick 1087 Marion HS (IL)

Jackson’s a tall slim righty who posted a 5-1 record and one save for Marion HS while pitching to a 1.40 ERA. He struck out an impressive 50 batters, walked 20, and gave up eight runs in 50 IP.

He’s committed to Southern Illinois University and has too much talent to sign at the backend of a draft right out of high school.
