By Fred Owens
Cody Birdsong 2B R/R 6-2 195 NR @Cbirdman11
Round 32 Overall pick 967 Quincy University (IL)
Birdsong is a tall slim second baseman from Poplar Bluff Missouri. After transferring from John A Logan in 2018, he lit up the Great Laves Valley conference, hitting .353 with 14 doubles, two triples, 14 homers and driving in 57 while scoring 55.
He led the Quincy Hawks in hits, home runs, RBI, and slugging and earned a place on the GLVC First Team All-Conference Team and selections as an All-American by the D2CCA (2nd Team), ABCA (2nd Team), and NCBWA (3rd Team).
This season Birdsong came back to earth a bit, but still performed superbly for the Hawks. As a result, he earned a spot on the D2CCA All-Region second-team and the NCBWA All-Region second-team.

Statistics from Quincy University
Birdsong will sign, he told the Quincy Herald-Whig how he found out.
"“I texted one of my best friends and said, ‘Hey, in an hour or so, let’s go golfing. I I texted him a little later and was like, ‘We’re going to have to wait. I was an emotional disaster, I don’t think I’ve ever been that emotional in my life.” One of the first orders of business after getting drafted was to go take some swings and play some catch. “You have to keep working because this is what you want. i’m at the bottom of the totem pole and have to work my way up.”"
Justin Yeager LHRP L/R 6-5 295 NR @JYeagss
Round 33 Overall pick 997 Southern Illinois University Carbondale (IL))
Prep Baseball Report call Yeager an athletic lefty who PBR said throws a high 80s fastball, a 77-78 mph curveball, and a 74 mph changeup. I’m not sure their data’s correct, the heater looks harder than that to me,
Yeager’s a lefty middle/ multi-inning reliever and looking at various newspaper reports one of SIU’s most dependable
- Led the team in ERA (2.88), strikeouts (47) and opponent average (.173)
- In conference 2.61 ERA Opponents BA .129 average in 10 appearances
- SIU career 2.97 ERA
- Allowed just 46 hits in 63.2 career innings.
- Gave up only five extra-base hits in 52 IP in 2016 and 2017 combined
- .Among pitchers with at least 40 IP this year, led Missouri Valley Conference by holding opposition hitters to a .173/.223/.525/748 line
- pitched two innings in 9 of 24 appearances
- Gave up more than one run in 4 of 45 games
