Atlanta Braves: Review of NL East through 1/4 of the season
New York Mets
The Mets are just a game under .500 with a run differential of -15.
Again, they’ve dealt with their fare share of injuries, but Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, and Jacob deGrom have made all of their starts. They just aren’t getting the results we’re used to seeing.
Just like 2018, the Mets got off to a host start but then hit a wall and have been up-and-down since starting the year 9-4. They’ve won just four series all season.
Strengths: To be honest, there aren’t many positives on offense right now for the Mets. They’re 13th in average at .250 and 12th in OBP at .330, which aren’t terrible numbers.
They’ve swung the bat much better against lefties as they have the sixth highest average in the league against left-handed pitchers.
The Mets starters are seventh in the league with 228 strikeouts and sixth with a K/9 of 9.66. And they issued the ninth fewest walks in all of baseball.
Weaknesses: The Mets are 19th in the league in runs scored with 180 in 39 games. And they’re 19th in average with RISP at .249.
They’re also 19th in the league with an OPS of .732. They also strike out a lot as they’re seventh in the league in strikeouts.
What’s most surprising is the pitching staff ranks 20th in the league with an ERA of 4.48. A lot of that can be contributed to the bullpen, which has an ERA of 4.65.
