Morning Chop: A week full of news ended with a Braves win on Friday

There’s a lot going on in the League currently. Here’s a few headlines and stories that might pique your interest:

  • The much richer Manny Machado is slated to make his Spring debut today for the San Diego Padres. The Padres are playing the San Francisco Giants today at 3:10PM (EST). This could be fun year for the Padres, as they try and make some noise in the NL West.
  • According to MLBTR, the Toronto Blue Jays have signed right-handers Bud Norris and Clay Buchholz. Norris will be brought in on a Minor League deal that gives him an opportunity to make $3 million if he makes the Major League team in the Spring; while Buchholz gets a Major League deal that will pay him “about” $3 million.
  • The Padres have signed relief pitcher Adam Warren for $2.5 million with an option for 2020.
    • As an aside, the signings of these pitchers noted here continue to reduce the available options for the Braves in the event that these ‘soreness’ injuries ultimately prove to be more problematic.
  • Another Free Agent signing that occurred on Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals have signed veteran catcher Matt Wieters. It is also a Minor League deal and will pay Wieters $1.5 million if he makes the Major League team. The 32-year-old will compete for a back-up role to future Hall of Famer Yadier Molina.
  • San Francisco Giants CEO, Larry Baer, will be investigated by Major League Baseball in regards to a video coming to light that involved a public altercation between Baer and his wife on Friday.
  • With Spring Training underway, there are still several household names on the Free Agent Market. ESPN.com breaks down the players that are left and what they could provide to a team.
