An Army of Pitchers

While the win for the Atlanta Braves on Friday afternoon was unfortunately overshadowed by the news of reliever A.J. Minter exiting the game, but it was a nice win for the Braves to get them over .500 this Spring.

The offensive contributions were dominated mostly by Minor Leaguers in the Braves organization, with infielder Andres Blanco knocking in two runs and slugging a double, finishing 1 for 2.

Bryse Wilson got the start on Friday, getting into some trouble early as he surrendered two home runs in the first inning, as the Blue Jays would take a 2-0 lead after the first frame.

The Braves would end up using 10 total pitchers in the game, allowing three runs on 10 hits, with eight strikeouts and three walks. Other than Wilson getting a bit roughed up and Minter leaving the game, the pitching was rather decent on the afternoon.

The Braves would wind up winning the game from a walk-off wild-pitch, as infielder Scott Kazmar Jr. would score from second base from an errant pitch by Toronto’s Hector Perez.

The Blue Jays prized possessions of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette both went hitless in the game, with Vlad Jr. going 0 for 3 with two strikeouts and Bichette getting one at-bat, resulting in a walk.  But that’s okay since Vladdy Jr. isn’t a major league player.

The Weekend Schedule

The Braves will take on the Detroit Tigers (4-3) today at their usual time slot, 1:05PM (EST) in Lakeland.  Lefty Max Fried is the probable starter for the Braves, while the Tigers’ starter is scheduled to be Jordan Zimmerman.

On Sunday the Braves will finish the weekend slate with a matchup back at Disney with the Miami Marlins (2-5), at 1:05PM (EST). The Marlins have lefty Dan Straily scheduled for the start Sunday, while the Braves have yet to announce their starter at the time of this writing.
