Pitching

6. Madison Bumgarner, San Francisco Giants

We have written about Bumgarner to the Braves before and everyone knows Bumgarner’s history. I don’t care if the Giants end up signing Bryce Harper, I don’t view them as a playoff contender this year. I think they will be out of the race come July, and I am of the belief every team should trade pending free agents and get something in return. So in short, I do expect a bidding war for MadBum come July.

7. Mychal Givens, Baltimore Orioles

Maybe the last good trade chip Baltimore has will be in high demand if he is healthy this season. With a career ERA hovering just north of 3.00 and a strikeout ratio better than 1 per inning, Givens is a quality asset for any team to have in its bullpen, and I am lobbying for the Atlanta Braves to go after him if he is available.

8. Jose Leclerc, Texas Rangers

The high-heat machine that anchors the Texas Rangers bullpen could very well be available come July. Still assuming the Atlanta Braves don’t have Craig Kimbrel closing games, Leclerc would be a nice thing to have in the bullpen every night. Even if A.J. Minter or Arodys Vizcaino is excelling in the closer role, Leclerc would still be highly valuable in the 7th or 8th.

9. Felipe Vazquez, Pittsburgh Pirates

Much of the same applies here as it did with Leclerc. No team can ever too much bullpen and we have seen some teams wreak havoc in the playoffs the past few years because they had a dominant bullpen. It’s a good feeling to almost assuredly know if you have a lead by the 6th, you have a good chance of winning the game.

10. Marcus Stroman, Toronto Blue Jays

If Stroman proves he is healthy this year, he could find himself coming back to call the States home. Stroman’s numbers were a disaster last year, but his peripheral numbers actually still said he was a good pitcher. General Manager Alex Anthopoulos obviously knows him from his Toronto days and it would be interesting to see if he even tried. Like many players, health will be the key though.
