Atlanta Braves
LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – FEBRUARY 22: Pitcher A.J. Minnter /

The Bottom Half

AJ Minter

Unless the Braves add a true closer, which is still possible, I expect to see A.J. Minter get the bulk of the opportunities. If that’s the case, he should be worth drafting.

Many people will tell fantasy owners jump way too soon at closers, so if you didn’t get the top dogs in the middle rounds, there is nothing wrong with drafting Minter in the 15th to 18th round range.

Kevin Gausman

If you are looking to fill out a rotation late in your draft, Kevin Gausman is probably worth a look. As we all know, he won’t give you excellent fantasy stats the majority of weeks, but he could be a nice piece to let your team start every now and then. And let’s be honest, the Atlanta Braves have such a huge following that he will get drafted.

I could see him getting picked as early as the 15th round but he could hang around until the 20th round as well.

Sean Newcomb

If he can prolong the way he pitched until late June from last year longer into the 2019 season, Sean Newcomb is well worth a selection.

Obviously, the big knock on Newcomb will be some weeks his ERA will be high and his WHIP will almost always be high. But on the weeks he has it figured out, he can help your team in many ways. He should be picked at the same time as Gausman in most cases, as early as the 15th round, but he could linger into the high teen rounds. Being a Brave will not hurt him in drafts though.
