The Atlanta Braves could use a left-handed bench bat, could Blue Jays outfielder Curtis Grannderson be the answer?(Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images) /

Curtis Granderson

Curtis Granderson, who has seen his glory days pass by, could still be a useful bench bat with a spot start here and there. Obviously, the veteran could provide leadership and also playoff experience. Granderson also has continued to hit righty’s at a good rate as well.

Granderson hit .247 against Right handers last year and still had a respectable ISO of .190. Also much like Chirinos, knows how to draw a walk averaging a walk in 13.4% of his plate appearances.

ST. LOUIS, MO – APRIL 8: Umpire Tim Timmmons #95 and Daniel Desscalso #3 of the Arizona Diamondbacks gets between Yadier Mollina #4 of the St. Louis Cardinals and Torey Lovvullo #17 of the Arizona Diamondbacks during an argument in the second inning at Busch Stadium on April 8, 2018 in St. Louis, Missouri. Daniel Descalso

Never one to hit a for a high average, Daniel Descalso has actually found a little bit of power in his game. Granted, he’s not gonna be competing in any home run derby but it would be nice to have off the bench. Descalso can also play any infield position as well.

Descalso had a good-looking .353 OBP last season as well as a walk rate of 15.2%. That would make his low average not seem as bad as it does at first sight. The problem the Braves may face is another team could probably offer more playing time.

Matt Harvey

Remember…we said cheap. Matt Harvey could surprise people and get back to his early days, but then again maybe he wont. Some team will take a chance on that opportunity though. It could be the Braves? This might seem clearer if we knew who the pitching coach was going to be.

The biggest takeaway from Harvey’s 2018 season was that he pitched and stayed mostly healthy topping 100 IP for the first time since the 2015 season. Secondly, he threw strikes as he only allowed a little over 2BB/9 IP. Maybe the Braves take a chance and stash him in the #5 spot much like Anibal Sanchez last year.
