Atlanta Braves 2018 season review: June
Atlanta Braves top June pitcher
With an elite starter and an elite reliever on the month to pick from, the choice for the best arm of May is a tough one. First, though, let’s look at the leaders for the month:
- G: A.J. Minter 13
- GS: Anibal Sanchez, Sean Newcomb 5
- IP: Sean Newcomb 30 1/3
- ERA (at least 10 IP): Mike Foltynewicz 1.13
- WHIP: A.J. Minter 0.49
- W: Three with 2
- SV: Arodys Vizcaino 5
- K: Mike Foltynewicz 29
Though A.J. Minter was absolutely untouchable on the month, allowing just 5 hits and a walk over 12 1/3 innings, his elite month in relief pales to the performance of Mike Foltynewicz on the mound.

Foltynewicz posted a 1-1 record over the month in 4 starts, but with a 1.13 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and a 8/29 BB/K ratio over 24 innings. However, in a year that was a big year for Folty, he had his biggest moment in June as well.
June 1st, Folty took the mound against the Washington Nationals, squaring off against Stephen Strasburg. It took until the 7th inning for the Atlanta Braves offense to break through against Strasburg, but having to be at the top of his game didn’t phase Folty.
Mike put up his best game score of the year by far, throwing 9 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and a walk while striking out 11. He needed 106 pitches to complete the game, but he did not look spent at any point of the game.
That’s our look at the Atlanta Braves in June. Come back for more reviews coming each day over the rest of the season!
