ATLANTA, GA – SEPTEMBER 22: Kurt Suzzuki /

Atlanta Braves top June hitter

With the team hitting so well on the month, picking the best hitter was actually quite difficult. Let’s look at the individual leaders first…

  • BA (min 25 PA): Kurt Suzuki .360
  • OBP: Kurt Suzuki .441
  • SLG: Freddie Freeman .545
  • OPS: Kurt Suzuki .961
  • R: Ender Inciarte 18
  • H: Nick Markakis 30
  • 2B: Ozzie Albies 11
  • 3B: Dansby Swanson 2
  • HR: Freddie Freeman 6
  • RBI: Johan Camargo 20
  • SB: Charlie Culberson, Ender Inciarte 3

Because he was playing just half the time of other starters, Kurt Suzuki’s big month really went unnoticed in June. He put up a .360/.441/.520 line with 5 doubles and a home run. At the same time, with double the playing time, Nick Markakis put up a .309/.367/.464 line with 9 doubles and 2 home runs.

After going with a pair of pitchers in different roles in May, I think I will do the same thing for hitters in June. Markakis didn’t have his best month of the season in June, but this was the month the Braves offense had its worst walk rate and third-worst OPS and strikeout rate.

The high walk rate and low strikeout rate of both Markakis and Suzuki made them both outliers on the week, as Suzuki had a 5/7 BB/K over 59 plate appearances on the month and Markakis had a 10/13 BB/K ratio over 109 plate appearances.
