Braves rumors
The Atlanta Braves might be interested in Josh Donaldson if he were healthy but he isn’t and hasn’t been all year. (Photo by Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images) /

Josh Donaldson, 3B, Toronto Blue Jays

Josh Donaldson has only had 137 at-bats this season. He has been out since late May, but reports are he is getting close to baseball activities again. Donaldson could be a game-changer for any team that acquires him. He is a free agent at season’s end so it could possibly be a pure rental. Donaldson has a few minor issues with Braves fan’s last May but I’m sure all could be forgiven if the “bringer of rain” does indeed rain down homers at Suntrust Park.

Donaldson also has a previous relationship with Atlanta Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos that could help him in transitioning to the Braves for the rest of 2018 and perhaps returning in Braves rumors through free agency before 2019 as well.

Adrian Beltre, 3B, Texas Rangers

This one has a lot of variables. The most important being would Adrian Beltre even want to come? As Beltre is a 10-5 guy, he can block a trade to any team. The Braves could use him as a bench option or he could push Johan Camargo to short and man third base. Despite being 39, Beltre is still putting up respectable numbers and would have to think at least about a chance at October baseball. His recent injury could also play a factor into his availability.

David Freese, 3B, Pittsburgh Pirates

David Freese is putting up a solid year in the steel city and this one is a lot like the Beltre situation. You could either use Freese to deepen the bench or move Camargo to SS. Another quality thing about Freese is we all know he has a previous history of showing up in the big moments, moments like the ones the Braves hope to find themselves in, in about 2 months.
