New York Yankees

POSITION: 1ST PLACE

ISSUES:  Chris Carter is batting .205 with a .683 OPS

WHAT THEY WILL LOOK FOR

The Yankees’ needs for pitching are probably greater, so that will take priority.  Will they also go for a bat?  Not that likely, given that a solid starting pitcher will require multiple prospects in return. and they are not likely to sell the farm for a quick fix.

WHAT THEY MIGHT OFFER

They do have a strong farm system (#1 or #2 overall by the reckoning of nearly all pundits), and any team they talk with will be shopping through a deep list of their talent.

#1 prospect Gleyber Torres will probably be an “untouchable” (though having Tommy John surgery could leave that door slightly ajar) which may derail any thoughts of them getting an ace or any other controllable starter.

OF Clint Frazier is their #2, OF Blake Rutherford is #3, and middle infielder Jorge Mateo is #4 before getting to a trio of pitching prospects: James Kaprielian, Justus Sheffield, and Chance Adams.  Those players would be the tier sought after the most.

If the Yankees do opt for a bat, then, the Braves might look toward 3B prospect Miguel Andujar, who still needs work, but is raking at AA Trenton.

CHANCES OF A DEAL WITH ATLANTA

Slim. Pitching will be their priority.  If Andujar is the target, then Atlanta might have to decide between he and High-A Austin Riley, who is just a level (and a year) behind Andujar.
