What’s in it for The Braves
Meadows is the number two outfield prospect in the majors. MLB Pipeline’s view of Meadows goes like this.
"Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 55 | Run: 60 | Arm: 40 | Field: 60 | Overall: 60 Meadows has a very advanced approach at the plate, particularly with plate discipline. He has a smooth left-handed swing geared mostly to hit.. . .(with) the expectation is that the power many have projected will come . . .made strides in center field and could be an above-average defender there.. . .(but) should get time in the outfield corners as well. Meadows runs well and will cover plenty of ground from any outfield spot."
Ramirez is the Pirates #9 prospect per MLB Pipeline and would follow GM John Coppolella’s recent tack of picking up bats as he did with Travis Demeritte and Matt Kemp.
The 21-year-old Colombian signed for $1M in 2011 in spite of injury his bat forces him into every conversation about top outfield prospects. This year in AA he’s posted a .312/.360/.409/.769 line with 62K and 21 walks in 407 PA. Here’s Pipeline’s view
Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 45 | Run: 55 | Arm: 45 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50
". . . hits the ball hard to all fields and while he has a line-drive, crush-the-ball-to-right-center approach, he certainly has the strength and bat speed to grow into more power. . . has a solid approach and will take a walk. . .runs well and can steal a base. . . (can play) center field and . . .but will likely profile better in . . .left . . .Ramirez projects as a slighty undersized, right-handed outfielder. It’s his bat that will carry him . . ."
