More from Tomahawk Take

Thursday

Mississippi had a big start from Rob Whalen to win 4-1 over Mobile. Whalen went 6 innings, allowing one run on 4 hits and a walk, striking out 4. Carlos Franco had a single and two walks. Dian Toscano had a single and a walk.

Friday

Mississippi was shut out on Friday by Mobile 7-0. Brandon Barker pitched very well, though his defense didn’t back him up, and his one mistake cost him big as he allowed a 3-run home run, accounting for 3 of the 4 runs he gave up in his 5 innings on 6 hits and 2 walks, striking out 3. Carlos Franco had a single and a walk, but also committed two errors. Dustin Peterson hit a double. Matt Lipka stole his 5th base.

Saturday

Andrew Thurman pitched a pure gem and handed off a big lead to the bullpen, but a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the 9th was blown and then the game lost in the bottom of the 10th as Mississippi fell to Pensacola 5-4 in 10. Thurman went 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run on 3 hits and a walk, striking out 9. Carlos Franco had two singles. Dustin Peterson had a single and a walk and stole his first base of the season. Dansby Swanson had a single and a walk. Jacob Schrader and Johan Camargo each hit home runs.

Sunday

Chris Ellis got his 6th win, but it was more for his bat than his arm as Mississippi beat Pensacola 4-3. Ellis went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks, striking out 4. However, with the bat, Ellis had 2 doubles and a single. Dansby Swanson had a single and a double. Johan Camargo had a double.
