Atlanta Braves Minor League Midweek Wrap: May 5th
AAA Gwinnett Braves (14-14)
Monday
The G-Braves got a solid fill-in start from Kanekoa Texeira, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the game as Toledo defeated Gwinnett 6-2. Texeira went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and a walk, striking out 2. Rio Ruiz was the only Braves hitter who was on base twice with two singles. Ozzie Albies did get his first hit at AAA.
Tuesday
Gwinnett was smoked by Toledo 12-5. Lucas Sims had basically no movement on his pitches on the evening, and it showed as he got hit hard, going 4 innings, allowing 8 runs (6 earned) on 4 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts. He allowed 3 home runs on the evening. It was as if there was something with the conditions in Gwinnett that hurt movement and feel as Ryan Weber had an effective inning in relief, but he still had the same issues with a lack of movement during his time on the mound as Sims did. Ronnier Mustelier had a single, double, and a walk. Sean Kazmar had two singles. Jace Peterson walked twice. Ryan Lavarnway and Blake Lalli each had a single and a walk.
Wednesday
Gwinnett took a scoreless game to the 11th, and they defeated Toledo eventually 2-1 in 12 innings. Casey Kelly had an outstanding start, going 8 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 walks, striking out 4. Emerson Landoni had two singles. Sean Kazmar had two singles. Tyler Moore had a double. Blake Lalli had a double.
